It is never easy dealing with something that is not in our comfort zone when it comes to anything. People alway focus on things that will not make them look unintelligent or ignorant. This being said it is our goal as educators to make sure everyone in our classroom feels safe and secure. Having taken the ED 244 class dealing with different types of diversity in the classroom we as future educators can use the knowledge we have gained and focus on ways to make our classroom more accepting. The book talks about different ways to teach ELL learners, but as we all know or will come to know not everything we can do is "by the book". The book talks about having a buddy system for these students to help them have some peer help with learning. I think this would be beneficial to the ELL students because they would be able to have a trust with their buddy, and they could see how to use the language they are learning correctly.
Below I found a website that talks about different things you have to keep in mind for ELL students and many other diverse students. I know there are some really great videos within this website, and it could really open our eyes as future teachers to think about some of the topics talked about. I hope you all find this site beneficial, especially because it was created by some of our own peers in our class!
