Reader's Theater
Reader's Theater has always been an interest to me because I loved when my teacher would hand out the Reader's Theater scrips or allowed us to create our own when I was a student. When I notice Reader's Theater in our chapter I knew I wantedto look into this strategy from a teachers perspective. I discovered that Reader's Theater is used to create interest as well as practice student's reading fluency. It also create confidence and improve the self-image of students. Reader's theater can provide a real purpose for reading as well as provide opportunities for cooperative learning. While researching I came across a few examples of Readers Theater's that I really enjoyed watching. This first video shows what I think a well put together Reader's Theaters looks like:
Reader's Theater
This video is a great example because it is easy to tell that the students have been working on their fluency in order to read their parts. I also like that these readers theaters involve props and costumes.
This video is long but it is an example of using readers theater to not act out a book but to act out scenes from a very popular movie, (Frozen). This teacher used the students interests to create a Reader's Theater that they would want to preform and practice for extended periods of time. Reader's Theater does not have to be a prewritten script, they can be any form of text.
